Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect for my first massage?
You will be required to fill out a Client Intake Form prior to your appointment. Once you come in, we will have a brief discussion about your medical history and any painful areas of concern. This will allow us to create a personalized session tailored just for your body. The therapist will then leave the room giving you a moment of peace and privacy to undress before lying on the massage table.
Clients should undress to their level of comfort for the massage. While many people undress fully, wearing of underwear, bras, shorts, t-shirts, or the like is perfectly acceptable. Ladies, please be aware that if you are wearing a bra, the therapist may ask to unhook it to more completely and effectively work on your back.
After a couple of minutes, your therapist will knock on the door before entering the room. You will be draped with sheets for privacy for the duration of the massage. The sheet is adjusted to expose only the areas of the body being worked. Once the session begins, we encourage you to communicate with us regarding comfort and pressure. This is your time to relax and be comfortable.
A rule of thumb about pressure is that it should feel like “good” pain. It shouldn’t be an agonizing experience. The same rule applies even for a deep tissue massage. Getting beyond that point, where the pressure becomes really painful, can sometimes damage your muscles rather than help them relax. Hence, why it’s important to communicate with us about pressure. We would like to provide you with both an enjoyable and beneficial experience.

What could I expect to feel after a massage?
Some people can feel muscle soreness after receiving a massage. This is completely normal, especially with deeper work. It should feel similar to being sore after a workout. If it’s really bothersome, feel free to ice or apply a topical pain relief cream. If you have cupping as part of your treatment, marks that look similar to bruises are common to expect. These should disappear within a few days.
How often should I schedule a massage?
Everyday if you would like.
In all seriousness, it’s obviously not practical for most to receive daily massages although it sure would be nice. If your body is feeling pretty good and you are trying to maintain that, then a massage a month is a good way to do so. If you have pain or muscle tension, or you are an athlete needing recovery work, then you definitely need more than once month. Clients often ask this question. My recommendation differs from person to person. It really depends on your massage goals.
